Since March 2022, the Explanatory Booklet on the main changes to Chapter V, Electricity, of the Construction Code has been modified and now requires a global analysis from the installation of a first charging station in a multi-residential context.
The questions in this form will allow us to assess whether or not a comprehensive study is necessary.

EVEMS: Electric Vehicle Energy Management System
LSMD: Load Shedding and Monitoring Device
Following the modifications of the explanatory notebook on the main changes of the Construction Code Chapter V, Electricity (2018) of March 7, 2022, it is now mandatory to make a new calculation of the connection of the residential building when each addition of electric vehicle charging equipment (EVCE), even if they are connected to charge controllers (LSMD). It must be remembered that the EVCEs are continuous loads and that the addition of the latter has a direct impact on the service connection capacity of the building; we have to make sure we never overload this one and that's why a new calculation is required.
However, the RBQ allows relaxation if an electric vehicle energy management system (EVEMS) provides continuous monitoring of feeder currents to dwelling panels, meter column feeders, and transformers while controlling EVCEs to maintain a safe threshold throughout the apartment building.
In order to be able to make this new load calculation, a complete study of your electrical installations, carried out jointly with our partner engineering firm will be required. The costs of such a study vary depending on the location and complexity of your installations. However, it may be that the installation of a EVEMS applies to your situation and that it is not necessary to carry out a complete study, depending on the layout of your electrical distribution. We will be able to assess everything with the application form you are about to fill out.
Excerpt from the Explanatory Book of the Building Code Chapter V, Electricity (2018):
"That said, as soon as a first EVCE is added to a residential building (new or existing), the designer or contractor should foresee, from the outset, the possibility that at least one parking space per unit housing can be equipped with an EVCE, without however exceeding the limits imposed by the capacity of the electrical infrastructure of the building (i.e. connection box, transformers, metering columns, etc.) upstream arteries housing panels. »
